Planning Your Hunt with SD Outfitters
-
For your guided hunt with SD Outfitters, we recommend bringing your weapon of choice (rifle or bow), waterproof boots, layered camo clothing, gloves, hat, backpack, and ammo. Don’t forget binoculars, a rangefinder, and any personal items you may need. We provide lodging, meals, and guaranteed tags, so just bring the essentials to stay warm, dry, and ready for the hunt!

For your hunt with SD Outfitters, we recommend bringing a rifle chambered in .270 or larger, properly sighted in at 200 to 300 yards. Bring 20–30 rounds of 150 grain or heavier bullets for optimal performance on elk or buffalo.
Our hunting terrain ranges in elevation from 6,500 to 10,000 feet, so reliable optics are essential. A 10x42 binocular is the most common and effective choice, and a rangefinder is highly recommended for accurate shot placement in varying terrain.
If hunting in Colorado, all hunters are required to wear orange (hat, beanie, or vest) in accordance with state regulations. Hunters must also carry their valid hunting tag with them while in the field.

After your successful hunt with SD Outfitters, we help coordinate trusted local meat processing and taxidermy services. Nearby butchers offer custom cuts, and flash freezing, and are equipped to handle both elk and buffalo meat and have the option to be transported to your home. For those wanting a shoulder or full mount, we partner with experienced big game taxidermists who also offer direct delivery of your finished mount to your home.

Most hunters fly into Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). From there, you'll need to rent a car and make the scenic 2-hour drive to the ranch.
If you're flying private, we recommend the Roosevelt Municipal Airport—our guides are happy to coordinate a pickup time for you from there.

Our Colorado location is in Craig, Colorado, the heart of Colorado hunting country. The nearest airport is Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) in Hayden.
From the airport, hunters will need a rental vehicle for the approximately 40-minute drive to the ranch. Detailed directions will be provided prior to arrival.
